DAY #108

 JULY 25, 2023

If you know me, then you know I have been an advocate for victims of domestic violence & sexual assault my entire adult life...maybe even for much of my childhood. My son will attest; advocacy certainly was part of his entire childhood.  I have dedicated my professional career to this cause, it was the motivation & reason for my law degree & for my PhD.  I ran for the State House on this platform, I have dedicated endless volunteer hours, trained professionals, conducted victim panels, produced annual Monologue fundraisers for victims of sexual violence...you get it.  It is literally part of 'Who I Am' ♥️

When I moved to Maine 30 years ago, the VERY first organization I connected with was Sexual Assault Crisis & Support Center I supported their cause, believed in their mission, admired & respected the women that loudly proclaimed "Silent No More"...& I willingly joined them in this battle cry.

This year I found myself on the other side of advocacy; I have found myself on the unfortunate side of being a victim of sexual assault.  & I am so very sad to say that the 'silence' from this organization has been deafening.

For 11 years in a row this organization, that I have loved, has always graciously invited me to join them in their annual fundraiser for victims of sexual assault...EVERY fucking year.  Yet this year...silence.

So me being 'me' I directly asked..."Why?" "Why soooo much fucking silence for the first time in over 30 years?"

In order to maintain FULL transparency; I have included ALL of the responses to my question of "Why?"

I feel disillusioned, great disappointment, deep sadness, & gaslit by so many. I suspect this may be what Dorothy felt, when she saw the 'Wizard Behind the Curtain' 😞
