DAY#203
OCTOBER 28, 2023
Today my social media is flooded with news of "The threat is over, life can begin once again, we are safe...now it is time to start the healing process."
I look at these statements made by politicians, spoken by law enforcement, spoken by many within the community, I read these statements 'packed' with meaning & I cannot help but want to 'unpack' them.
Do we just move on from trauma? Do we just wake up & all of a sudden feel safe? Does life just go back to 'normal' once again?
I scream as loud as I can scream...NO, NO we do NOT!
When someone tells a sufferer of trauma to “start the healing process" or “know that you are now safe & start living your life once again” they are either displaying a profound ignorance as to the nature of trauma or they are being incredibly insensitive & self-serving.
If people were able to just “move on & heal” from trauma; well fuck...it wouldn’t be trauma! Trauma is an internal response to devastating events. Trauma manifests in extreme emotional, psychological & physiological changes & creates anhedonia within a person. Anhedonia is the inability of the traumatized individual to enjoy ANYTHING! Traumatized individuals experience difficulty connecting with others, poor concentration, poor focus...it effects EVERY aspect of their lives.
For all of these reasons we have to unpack these messages of "The threat is over, life can begin once again...we are now safe, it is time to start the healing process." We HAVE to unpack these messages in order to create any true change within our society.
There is also another aspect as to the 'why' some choose to speak this narrative. Often there is a darker reason for telling victims of trauma to “Move on, you are safe, just begin the healing process.” These individuals are invested in silencing the victim so that 'they' do not have to take responsibility for their role in causing the trauma.
Blaming victims for “holding on” to trauma, is not a new phenomenon...we have taken part in it throughout history. Blaming victims for "not moving on & healing" (as if it is their choice to continue suffering) is straight up manipulative & insulting. It is an insult to all those who suffer from trauma & who want nothing more than to finally have relief from their pain. Yet still we do it; time & time again.
We MUST look at the trauma, we MUST unpack why events happen & continue to happen over & over. We MUST question those pushing the narrative to silence those who scream in pain, we MUST scream with them, we MUST force the difficult conversations...without it we are destined to repeat & continue to allow the same traumatizing behaviors that are breaking us all.

203 DAYS AGO: I was drugged, raped, sodomized, robbed & 'found' in an unnamed establishment's 'basement' in downtown Waterville Maine & then arrested.
129 DAYS AGO: I was 'silenced' by Charlie Giguere; owner of Silver Street Tavern.
